Day 87 – El Questro to Ellenbrae – sunny 32

View of the Cockburn Ranges from a lookout near Home Valley Station entrance.
Felt like crap this morning, dragged my sorry butt out of bed, packed up and then slept most of the way to Home Valley Station. Now this place is apparently were Australia was filmed, it is nice, more of a resort than a Station though. It had a pool and playground for the kids and very green grassy camp areas. But why would you travel the Gibb if you wanted to stay at a resort? We thought it really didn’t offer us a lot to do here, most of the walks were 12km or more away and you couldn’t canoe on the river because of the crocs, so off we went to Ellenbrae Station.
A Donkey Water Heater works very well in no time
Just like the Hilton
Ellenbrae didn’t have a lot of publicity but we knew about it from our Camps 5 book.
At the Homestead they offered tea and coffee also the best scones and toasted sandwiches, which we had a feed. Glenn got to admire his double barred finches while the kids run amuck in the garden.
Our camp was at the Ringers Camp which was about 600 metres up the drive, we were impressed. It had a wicked shelter made out of stone, with a hot shower, bath and toilet. Also a wood bbq and table and chairs, the donkey water heater had to be lit for the hot water which was pretty easy, especially when Glenn does it.
Its OK its just sand!!
Now he did mention a waterhole and that they had never seen crocs down there, so we went and had a look and of course Glenn had to go for a swim. It was scary, but if he could do it, I could plus I was hoping he looked tastier. Paige was thinking if mum can do it, I can and Levi…. well he just jumped in. Glenn said he could live here, myself …well I could come for holidays or stay for the muster.
