Day 58 – Katherine to Middle Creek Station – sunny 31 with late down poor (12mm)

The Station was nothing like I expected, they had a homestead with 6 bedrooms, then a few metres down the road is the shed were all the cooking and showering is done, also some of the helpers stay out here in their swags.

We made bacon and eggs and took some brekky out for the boys already out at the Station about 15 mins away. For an hour and a half we sat on the back of a ute being quiet and watching the cattle being mustered in by the helicopters. Now you would think the kids would have been going nuts.They loved every minute, and watched the whole time making very little noise.
They were in awe!

The gates closed, Nino’s face lit up like a light bulb he looked so happy, then all back to the shack for lunch. Paige and Levi were constantly entertained by Sunny Kaylah’s new puppy, the poor thing never got a break.

So the drafting process now had to start, Wieners in one pen, cows, calves, bulls
  and steers in another. Nino worked the gates and looked out over all of us, Tina counted and did a gate, Nathan was on the slide gate and the others Rooster, Johno, Darren and Jess ushered the cattle up as needed, or sometimes wrestling.

By 6pm the drafting wasn’t finished, so back again tomorrow, for now they all needed a well deserved shower and feed. All the boys looked knackered except Rooster who is an absolute machine of a man, Johno is calm and placid, Darren likes to wrestle, Nino has everything planned out in his head and is calm, everything seems to run smoothly and everyone respects and understands him even when he doesn’t say a word.
