50km up the road we stop at Madura to call the hospital to let them know we were on the way, we had a short moment of hope as there was a nurse on call in Eucla, but our luck would have it that she was on holidays from today until the 20th.
So we headed off the Eucla, a first-aid officer checked Paige out and also rang the flying doctors to make sure about anti- biotic and tetanus, they advised us she should be fine, but it is the tetanus they were worried about.
The kids did so well, we stopped at the Nullabor Roadhouse to freshen up and have something to eat, while waiting for our food we met some people from Cape Le Grande, Glenn had just finished telling them what had happened when he turned around and saw Paige up a tree, when Glenn told her to get down she said “ But this one is easy peasy dad”. Mmmmmm.
Poor Paige watched on as Levi piled wedges into his mouth, she was happier when I told her I had jelly for her, she had to wait until we got the Ceduna in case she had to go to theatre.
We finally made it to Ceduna hospital by 8pm, they took us in straight away, Paige made herself quite at home. She was so brave while they slowly took off the bandage which had stuck to her wound, she ended up taking it off herself, red faced, teary eyed and with a smile.
While the ex-ray was taking place, Levi and I went to try and find a place to stay with no luck, all cabins and motels were booked out. Now I was stressed, went back to the hospital and found out that Paige would be going to theatre tonight, so I would stay with Paige, Levi and Glenn on the other hand were going to stay on the side of the road.
Fortunately just as Glenn was leaving the amazing staff said that we could all stay in a 4 bedded room, much to Paige’s disgust who wanted to stay at the hospital by herself. So thank-you Ceduna Hospital "Hotel", we even had a en suite.
The nurse asked Paige who she wanted to come to theatre with her while she went to sleep, she took the nurses hand (Tanya) and said “just you”, and so our independent little 5 year old took herself to theatre.
We went and had a cuppa down the street.
