Day 18 - Mulga Rest to Coober Pedy

We were the only people at last night’s rest area, that was until 7-8pm when another 3 campers joined us.

Our first view of Coober Pedy was of thousands of piles of dirt randomly scattered in every direction you looked. At first we thought it was a mining section but no, even in their front yards and around their house, it looks like a massive rubbish tip.

Now we can feel the heat.
It went up to 31 degrees when we arrived here at 11.30am.

After setting up we went to check out the town.

Umm! What a freaky joint.

You drive in and there is hardly anyone in the town, except a few Aboriginals.

All the shops looked as though they were shut with their steel barred windows, and then we thought it must be because it was Sunday.

Back to the Caravan Park for a swim and relax.

The night was good, Glenn chained the fridges to the camper and we locked everything up.

No muggings tonight, though it might have been a different story if we stayed closer to town.

We did have a wild dog stalking the grounds in the middle of the night, a vicious sounding thing which a Ranger was called in to take care of.
